Tata Housing adopts Tata Teleservices’ practice on BE Index

Tata Housing has been committed to creating a Culture of Excellence through the Tata Business Excellence Model. The company has taken noticeable steps in this direction and has come a long way in its Business Excellence (BE) journey through employee involvement in improvement initiatives, strategic planning & deployment process and communication, among others.

Conception and Inspiration

Tata Housing believed that having an engagement tool, such as the Tata Housing Excellence (THE) Council, and an R&R tool, such as THE Awards, would help in knowledge sharing across locations as well as recognise champions across functions and sites. In line with this, the company looked at some of the best practices followed by Tata Teleservices to inculcate a Culture of Excellence.

Tata Housing chalked out a very methodical implementation process to incorporate a Culture of Excellence and achieve bigger milestones in the BE journey.  The functional BE Champions met once a month for two hours, where there were internal speakers speaking on subjects linked to businesses such as Industrial Prognosis, Revenue Recognition in a Real Estate company, RERA, among others.

Challenges and Learnings

This project had its set of hurdles and challenges. Frequent communication and proper allocation of responsibilities played a key role in the successful implementation of the project. One major challenge was for the jury to evaluate a considerable number of improvement projects and decide on the most deserving nominee in a short span of time.

With intense discussions and deliberations on work done, the calibre resulted in the Annual THE Awards night on April 22, 2016.

Continuing with the practice of recognising THE Winners for involvement in improvement projects is a critical success parameter of THE Council.

Implementing the Culture of Excellence programme at Tata Housing has been an excellent example of learning from and practicing what worked well for another group company – it is an apt example of seamless functioning across two Tata group companies.
